After the birth of her son in August 2007, Karen Pearson Brown began writing the nationally syndicated column Out with Baby, which in 2009 was relaunched as the blog Out with Mommy, a light-hearted look at life as an out-and-about mom living in Los Angeles.  When Karen moved back to her home state of Virginia in the summer of 2016, she created Moms NoVa, a resource for parents and families in Northern Virginia.

Karen’s columns have appeared in more than 40 media outlets in print and online, including LA Independent Newspapers (West Hollywood Independent, Hollywood Independent, Westside Independent and Culver City Independent), GoWeHo, WeHoNews.com and many others.

Karen is also a contributor to L.A. Parent, Ventura Blvd magazine, CBS OnTopic,  WIRED Insights, Medium, MomsLA, Expecting, Trekaroo, Traveling Mom, Vagabond, Red Tricycle, BlogHer, SheSpeaks, MomsLA, Mirror Media Group (Westside Today, Santa Monica Mirror, Brentwood News, Culver City News), Match.com’s Harmony magazine, Houzz, Hometalk and QuickStartGuide. She has also been a commentator on the top-rated NPR radio station KPCC-FM in Los Angeles.

In 2000, Karen founded the organization Professional Organization of Women in Entertainment Reaching Up (POWER UP), and established the annual Power List of women in entertainment & media  She also has served as co-chair for the GLAAD Media Awards and as a member of the National Steering Committee for the Human Rights Campaign.

When not blogging, Karen is a public relations executive and has represented corporate clients such as YouTube, Sony, Safeway, Le Cordon Bleu/California School of Culinary Arts, Vitamin Shoppe, HomeGoods,  LuxiSleep, WorldBed, E.S. Kluft & Company, MicaBeauty, Green World Rewards,  Real Mex Restaurants and Tenet Health Systems.  She has also represented numerous entertainment and media clients including Reach Entertainment (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jive Records (Britney Spears and NSYNC), E! Entertainment (Joan Rivers); and publishing clients McGraw Hill and Penguin Books. She currently directs communications programs for a health technology company in Fairfax, Virginia.

Karen is also currently writing two books, Priceless, a tale of a 30-something woman’s adventures in Hollywood, and Anchor Baby, a story of unexpected consequences when a woman decides to start a family as a single mother.
